Updated v0.52 Changelist, WebSVN change

When one of my real life friends asked me what I was going to do with Zerogame now that Sony's trying to kill off Linux, I laughed. Far from being being its death knell, I would say the project is more alive today than ever before!

Here are more changes for v0.52... it's looking really good right now.

  • Received nicer/better 480p layouts/backgrounds from barrybarrykelly, 480p full screen support is complete.
  • Received 576p backgrounds from barrybarrykelly, 576p full screen support for our European friends is complete.
  • Many exceptions for scaling and speed have been made, mainly Midway arcade games. Some have no sound.
  • Fixed MAME control configuration for 4 players. Refixed missing PS button quit function.
  • Make backup/restore save scripts more friendly, now give you feedback.
  • Added script to start up Firefox to Tools menu.
  • Added script to directly go to the Zerogame website to Tools menu (requires Firefox).
  • Added script to start up Nautilus so that you can do some file management without messing with remote connections/Zerogame endlessly restarting.
  • Added mirrorlists for YDL repos to avoid problems when repos go down, thanks to xnonsuchx.

Current issues that need to be worked out before I consider packaging up a release:

  • Games that will use XMAME v0.80 are only setup for 2 players, the config file is binary, so not as easy to edit. Help?
  • Need to work out a script to allow users to quit XMAME with the PS button, which isn't working for me for some reason.
  • ...Probably more I'm not remembering.

Also, WebSVN has been moved and the link in the above navigation bar has been changed to: http://svn.thezerogameproject.com. The SVN repository is still accessable at http://svn.thezerogameproject.com/zerogame/.

This is so awesome.... I'm very glad you decided to stick with it. I think a lot of us wavered for a bit there, but I think, if anything, our resolve has grown. SCREW YOU SONY! THANK YOU ZEROJAY!

I can't wait to give this a try, and yeah seems if anything its spurred more people to say screw Sony, and start playing with Linux. Ha!
Too bad we can't have N64, I'd love to not have to pull that thing out once in a while just to be able to play up on the big screen, not to mention using a reasonable controller.

can I get a link to the xmame rpm or source that you're using? I'm going to have a look at configuring it

It's in Ps3bodega as xmame. Launches as xmame.SDL.

ok well i was able to use "xmame.SDL --showconfig > /home/zerogame/.xmame/xmame-SDLrc"
to create a default config file for the zerogame user then I set the rom folders and joystick type (seems 1 is the best for configuring the joystick as 7 grabs lots of other info on each button press and treats them all like analogue) though from there on in i just used the TAB menu to set up the buttons like regular mame but xmame seems to only have support for 16 buttons so it wont read the PS button on any setting though setting the "UI cancel" button to say L3 worked fine as an exit button

it will allow you to set the player 3,4,5 and buttons this way too but i only have 2 sixaxis so couldn't test it
xmame seems to only allow 1 rom folder which might be a pain later as it requires older bios sets as well as roms to work properly and the bios files will overwrite the newer ones there's no way that i can think of that both can be on the system without full on duplicates of the roms and bios files in a different folder

hope this helps but i couldn't find any way of hand editing the configs for greater control, well not yet but maybe using a front end to generate the config might work

Yeah, I've got the config file working fine... it's just that there's no way to manually setup default.cfg unless I've got 4 controllers plugged in.

I planned on using a Gizmod script to pass an escape key command press to XMAME when the PS button is pressed... and it appears to work except that XMAME ignores the event anyways.
